Clémence Imbert

Assistant Professor, HEAD – Genève

Clémence Imbert is assistant professor in the Visual Communication department at HEAD - Genève. Her research to date has focused on the history of graphic design exhibitions for her PhD dissertation at Paris 8 in 2017 and on the history of book covers (Les Couvertures de livres. Une histoire graphique, Actes Sud/Imprimerie Nationale, 2022, Prix d’Académie 2023). She recently published an essay on the teaching of graphic design : Why History Matters to Graphic Design, Head Publishing, 2024.

Sandra Bischler-Hartmann

Research Assistant, Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW

Sandra Bischler-Hartmann studied Visual Communication and Art and Design Science (M.A., Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany). In her submitted PhD thesis she investigated graphic design education at the Basel School of Design during the “Swiss Style” era of the 1950s and 1960s. She was part of the SNSF research project “Swiss Graphic Design and Typography Revisited” (2016–2020), conducting research on the history of graphic design education in Switzerland. In 2021 she co-edited the book “Swiss Graphic Design Histories: Visual Arguments” (Scheidegger&Spiess). She works as a design history teacher and as an exhibition curator, most recently for the exhibition “Rid the Grid – Women in Swiss Graphic Design 1900–1980” at Basel Poster Collection (2024).

Julie Blanc

Post-doc, HEAD – Genève

Julie Blanc carries a Ph.D. in Ergonomy (psychology) and Design (University Paris 8 / Artec / EnsadLab, June 2023). Her Ph.D. thesis deals with the use of web technologies for publishing, and their ability to create communities of practice. She was part of the team that developed paged.js and specialises in CSS print (web-to-print). She has led or taken part in founding projects on the history of digital graphic design, including a “Timeline of technologies for publishing (1963-2018)” (2018) and the website “TimeLure, une chronologie des Rencontres de Lure” (2022).

Caroll Maréchal

Post-doc, HEAD-Geneva

Caroll Maréchal is a PhD in Social Sciences and a graphic designer. In December 2022, she defended a dissertation at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) entitled “Graphic design collections in public institutions in France. History and practices”, rewarded by the EHESS PhD thesis prize in 2023.
Since 2023, she has taught at Rennes 2 University where she is associate researcher to Pratiques et théories de l’art contemporain Laboratory.
Between January 2018 to November 2019, she was research fellow at the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap) where she conducted a two-year investigation into its graphic design collection.
She also holds a MA in graphic communication (HEAR, Strasbourg).

Léonore Conte

Post-doc, HEAD – Genève

Léonore Conte is a graphic designer, doctor in Aesthetics, arts sciences and technologies, associate professor at the Esaat (Roubaix) and associate researcher at the AIAC laboratory (Paris 8 University). Her doctoral thesis focuses on the double reflexivity of the manifesto in graphic design in the 20th and 21st centuries and its contribution to the disciplinary culture in formation. Her work focuses now on the writing practices of artists and graphic designers and their forms of publication and dissemination. She recently published Artists as Typographers with Léo Carbonnet by Tombolo Presses.
